From Pinterest to Real Life – XXII

If all of the pins I’ve been bringing to life lately are any indication you’d think I only found recipes on Pinterest…but that’s not the case!!!  I have lots of other pins I can’t wait to bring to life so stay tuned for some of those great ideas!

Quick, easy, and yummy…my three favorite features of a recipe and these Pizza Dough Pretzels with Pizza Dip fit the bill!  The dip has just for ingredients and you can mix it up hours ahead of time and just pop it in the oven.  Instead of using coarse salt on the pretzels I decided to mix it up and go with Italian seasoning instead and I have to admit that I’m glad I went that route!

Not to be outdone by the overwhelming content calorie in the last recipe (I didn’t actually count but with that much cheese I didn’t want to know how many calories were in each delicious bite!)…this Chicken Pot Pie Soup comes from the fabulous skinnytaste site which features tasty, yet calorie-friendly recipes.  This recipe is perfect for a gloomy winter day (I can’t say cold living in CA because the rest of the country doesn’t think our weather is cold ;) )  I was in a soup making mood so I made a double batch and threw the leftovers in the freezer so I can’t wait for another gloomy day when I can have the soup again!

For the Love of Sugar

A couple of weeks ago I saw a post from For the Love of Sugar (local cupcakes) that said they had a dozen Strawberry Lemonade mini cupcakes available.  Anxious to try these cupcakes (yup that’s right, I “liked” them on Facebook without ever trying the cupcakes!) I said I would take them.  And I was not disappointed!  The cupcakes were moist and light and had the perfect frosting to cake ratio!  Needless to say I will be ordering these cupcakes again!

What a cute treat to pick up to bring to a potluck or dinner party!!!

Continuing with the theme from last week’s Pinterest to Real Life post I thought I would share some more healthy eating (and drinking options) for you!

Detox Water

While browsing Pinterst for healthy recipe ideas I came across this detox water.  One of the things I liked about the water is that it wasn’t same crazy cleanse that was going to leave me starving, crabby, and ready to snap at any moment!  It is water, infused with lemons, cucumbers, and mint leaves, designed to encourage you to drink and therefore naturally rid your body of toxins.

Refrigerator OatmealOvernight, No-Cook Refrigerator Oatmeal…Now before you begin to judge a book by its cover, let me assure that even if the thought of cold uncooked oatmeal leaves you uneasy, this was a quick and yummy breakfast!  A couple of things I really liked about this oatmeal…

- You make the oatmeal the night before which makes mornings a lot easier because breakfast is grab-and-go…while still being healthy!

- I liked the option to make the oatmeal a variety of flavors.  So far I have only made the Cinnamon-Apple flavor but I can’t wait to try more!

Dots Cupcakes

Last month when I was at the Rose Parade we passed Dots Cupcakes and I knew I needed to get back to Pasadena as soon as possible to check it out!  And I have to say that I’m really glad I went back because these cupcakes were yummy!  I loved that they offered mini cupcakes because then I get to try two different flavors without feeling guilty about my calorie consumption for the day.  Dots offered a variety of unique and traditional flavors and they even have cupcakes for your canine friends!

Bakers Choice and Dulce de Leche

Bakers Choice (a chocolate cupcake with caramel inside, caramel icing and caramel crunch balls on top) and Dulce de Leche

Dulce de Leche and StrawberryDulce de Leche and Strawberry (there was more to the name and for the life of me I can’t remember the rest of the name!)

I have also been thinking about implementing a cupcake rating system…to differentiate the absolutely outstanding from the great from the good cupcakes…what things should I be rating?

From Pinterest to Real Life – XX

We are now officially one month into the new year which means that for many people it is probably getting more and more difficult to stick to your new year’s resolutions.  If one of your resolutions was something along the lines of, “Get healthy, lose weight, eat better,” or something else related to your health then this recipe is perfect for you!  If you’ve never heard of skinnytaste, but are trying to eat healthier, then I suggest you head over there immediately!

One of the recipes from there that I pinned recently was Pasta with Butternut Squash, Spicy Sausage, and Baby Spinach.  One of the things that I love about skinnytaste is that the recipes don’t make you sacrifice flavor for health and this recipe was no exception!  In the interest of full disclosure I will say that this recipe required a fair number of dishes to clean up, but definitely worth it!

Moving to Surf City, USA…

…And the ironic thing is that I don’t have a clue how to surf!

Huntington Beach, CA

Since this was a reasonably local move (just over 20 miles) I was able to do a lot of my packing in Thirty-One products…which was actually pretty eye-opening because I had no idea I had so many products!

Thirty-One products galore!

This also made carrying things a little easier because almost everything had handles ;)

And now I get to work out here…

Beach ViewComing soon (or not so soon depending on my schedule lol)…a look inside my new house and the gorgeous amenities of the community…think pools, fitness center, jacuzzis, saunas, tennis courts and more!

Slater’s 50/50 – Burgers by Design

You’ve probably heard me mention it before, but if you haven’t then you should know…my brother loves bacon.  A lot.  Probably more than I love cupcakes.  So since he flew out from South Carolina to help me move it only seemed fitting that after I moved we go to a restaurant with lots of bacon.  Fortunately there is a restaurant that fits this description less than 2 minutes from my new house so off to Slater’s 50/50 – Burgers by Design we went to eat!

With a menu filled with burgers that are 50% beef and 50% bacon my brother was in bacon heaven (and fortunately for me the menu featured turkey burgers so I was also happy :) )

Burgers by DesignThe menu features several pre-designed burgers (wait until you see my mom’s!) or you can design your own and get as creative as you’d like!

PB & Jellousy

My mom ordered the Peanut Butter & Jellousy….a burger “topped with thick cut bacon, creamy peanut butter and strawberry jelly on a honey wheat bun”…definitely not the pb&j of your elementary school days!

Wow!My brother’s burger was 1/2 bacon, 1/2 beef, topped with bacon, a fried egg, a bacon pretzel bun and a sauce infused with bacon…talk about bacon overload!  But he was in heaven!!! (And he’s probably going to tell me that I left out one of the bacon elements of his burger ;) )
